sydney | autumn is a second spring ...

... when every leaf is a flower.
- Albert Camus

Today, I was determined to go for a bit of a wander in the city with my camera, as it had been ages since I went out shooting just for fun.  And so, I dragged myself out of bed early-ish (certainly much earlier than I ever manage to drag myself out of bed to go to work!) and drove to the Royal Botanical Gardens for a little walk around St Mary's Cathedral, then down Macquarie Street and back through the RBG.  It was a perfect Sydney autumn day - beautiful light, clear blue skies providing a perfect backdrop for the golden leaves and just enough warmth for the chill to be gone from the air ...

On my way home from the city, I stopped to buy groceries and ducked into Lorna Jane to buy a top that I really liked but probably didn't need.  As I was leaving, a tiny old Italian lady dressed in a black suit stopped me, pointed to a pile of tops lying folded on nearby the table and asked, with a heavy accent: "how much is this?"  I figured it would probably take me longer to explain that I didn't work at the store than it would to simply look at the price tag and tell her, so I had a look and said "fifty eight dollars."  Well, this lady just about fell down.  "FIFTY EIGHT DOLLARS?" she asked.  I smiled apologetically (why??  I don't even work there, let alone set the prices!) and said "yes, fifty eight dollars."  "FIFTY EIGHT DOLLARS!" she said.  "FIFTY EIGHT DOLLARS!"  She quite simply could not believe it.  I said "yes" again and started making my way out of the store, leaving this poor, shocked lady shaking her head in disbelief and repeatedly saying "FIFTY EIGHT DOLLARS!" with her Italian accent.  She may still be there.

But anyway, here are some photos from my city wander ...

FIFTY-EIGHT DOLLARS??

Poor love, that's how I feel almost all the time when shopping. They want HOW much for this piece of flimsy material?!

Your photos ... such beautiful light and tones. Really really lovely.

These are incredible. I miss Autumn! It is supposed to be summer here but you can't tell through the howling wind and torrential rain. What lens did you use? xxx
