a day trip to leura

D and I recently took one of our day trips out to Leura, a small town in the Blue Mountains that is around a ninety minute drive west of Sydney.  We had been hoping to catch the leaves in all their Autumnal prettiness, but wound up being a little early for that (although my sunglasses made everything look deceptively red and orange ... on the drive out there I kept exclaiming "oh wow, look at that tree!  So gorgeous!" whilst D had absolutely no idea of what I was talking about).  So we spent a few hours wandering around, taking photographs, eating, drinking coffee, buying chocolates from Josophan's (which were ridiculously good) and doing umm a little bit of shopping at Maison Montage for some glassware that we didn't really need but was so pretty that I couldn't resist (really I could have bought out half the store, finances permitting, but ... well ... they did not, so I just gazed at everything in a forlorn sort of way until D dragged me out of there).  It was all quite lovely, really :)

So anyway, these photos were shot on Kodak Portra 400, which I am quite taken with.  I am loving film photography but it is a pricey hobby (the Portra 400 is $24.00 a roll, not to mention the cost of developing and scanning), so I need to lay off just a wee bit and revert to my D700 for a little while (sob).

Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter, by the way!

  4. gorgeous photos though I must say that, as someone from a small town, this town sounds like a fairly big town, it's funny how things seems different to different people depending on lots of stuff.:)

  5. The photos are gorgeous, Natasha. Simply beautiful – that first pair is perfection! I find it interesting that Portra is being used for general and landscape photography. It looks gorgeous in your images but we always used it in studio work only for portraits as it was formulated for skin tones. Plus I think it's a lot less expensive here. $24.00? Yikes!

Have a lovely week and weekend ahead. xo
