Firstly, I would just like to say thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart for the comments and emails on my last post. I was so nervous about hitting that "publish" button, but am so very glad that I did - your words helped me enormously (I have calmed down a lot) and I am lucky to have such wonderful readers! :) xox
Whilst staying in Lyon, D and I also took a day trip to Annecy, which is located on the northern tip of Lake Annecy and around a two hour train trip from Lyon.

First up, here is my big tip: if you visit Annecy by train, try to buy your tickets in advance rather than on the day of your visit, or you will end up paying €100 like we did. I know that this actually falls into the category of Bloody Obvious Recommendation as it is well known that train tickets are cheaper the further in advance that you buy them, but ... well, we were lazy, and we paid the price. Literally.
D tells me that the train trip from Lyon to Annecy is quite scenic, but I wouldn't know from personal experience because I suffer from insane motion sickness and take medication prior to any journey of more than thirty minutes' duration in a bid to stave off the otherwise inevitable nausea. The downside of Nausea Avoidance is that I pass out almost immediately upon sitting down (and almost always wake up with a sore neck!!). I do, however, vaguely recall waking up for approximately thirty seconds at one point during the journey and saying "oh, that's a nice lake!" before falling asleep on D's shoulder again, so I have no doubt that he speaks the truth in this regard (and others, of course).
So, Annecy is pretty but it is also very, very touristy and crowded. And yes, I do realise that it is completely hypocritical of me to say this considering that we, too, were tourists adding to the crowd, but ... well, it's certainly not off the beaten track. It was nice to see, and the lake was beautiful, but in retrospect, we both would have preferred to lose that day in Lyon/Annecy and have added it to Venice (admittedly another touristy and crowded place), where we only spent two nights because we have both visited before, but ended up feeling like we ran out of time. That's just our opinion, though! :)
PS. Thanks to D for lending me his 24mm lens for the last shot! I tend not to use wide angle lenses in my photography but thought I would try something a little different. You know, for one photo.
