The Basilica di Santa Croce in Florence was built between 1294 and 1385, although the facade was not added until the 19th century. Full of ornate tombs, religious art and featuring a number of beautifully frescoed chapels, the Basilica is the resting place for several illustrious Italians (including Michelangelo and Galileo) and is a wonderful church to visit (and photograph!). Sadly, the altar is under restoration and has been for a number of years now, so D and I have yet to see it despite the fact that we have each visited the Basilica before ... maybe someday!
